Budget

West Bedlington Town Council follows a structured budget-setting process which begins in November with a draft proposal and is agreed before the end of January. Quite simply, our budget is our best estimate of spending for the next financial year.

West Bedlington Town Council typically receives most of its income from a precept, which is an annual sum of money collected by Northumberland County Council via Council Tax bills. We may also receive additional income from events, VAT reclaims, grants, and any balances carried over from the previous year.

Proud to have one of the lowest Council Tax charges in the area

West Bedlington Town Council has a proud history of setting one of the lowest Council Tax charges in the area and is committed to continue to keep this as low as possible.

Powers and duties

Although town councils in general have few statutory duties, they can exercise specific powers to fund various activities outlined in the government's Powers and Duties list.

Allocating each item of expenditure with a specific power or duty enables us to choose the discretionary services we wish to provide to continue to make Bedlington a great place to live and work.
