Eggcellent cress-head entries
We have been thrilled with the response we’ve had from our fun little cress-heads competition. The judges had the hard job of anonymously picking one winner from each of the four primary schools in West Bedlington, but in the end, they picked the egg cress heads that stood out for their design, creativity and good ‘hair’ growing skills. The four children will receive a small prize and a certificate before they leave school for their Easter break.
If anyone else in the town has a little one who would like to grow an egg cress head, we have some packets of cress seeds left, so please get in touch to arrange a time to collect a packet, free of charge. To make a cress head, simply decorate an old eggshell with a face, fill it with damp cotton wool, sprinkle lots of cress seeds on top, and keep it in a sunny spot, watering daily so the cotton wool stays moist. Then – and this is the hardest part – you’ll need an ‘eggstra’ sprinkle of patience. Wait and watch as the ‘hair’ grows in about a week, ready for sandwiches or to add to scrambled eggs on toast. Yummy!
We've had some great comments about this competition from parents and carers, so thanks for feeding this back. Comments included: "Thanks for your reply! Such a lovely idea." "Thanks so much for getting back to me and accepting the entry. Can I please feedback that this is such a lovely idea and we loved doing it!" "This was such a lovely activity which brought my son tonnes of excitement each morning, thank you!"
Take a look at all egg cress head entries, and if your little one’s design is here, we hope they enjoyed growing cress, taking part in the competition and have a cracking Easter break.
